Thomas
Thompson was the eldest of Henry
and Hannah Charlton's (nee Thompson)
three children and was born in the
latter half of 1881 at Benwell, Northumberland. 
His
date of enlistment in the 6th (Territorial)
Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers
is unknown at present, however,
he was a timber merchant's clerk
and married to Dorothy when he
embarked with the battalion for
France on the 20th of April 1915.
Judging by the Medal Index Card
shown below he was transferred
to the 4th Bn on promotion to Company
Sergeant Major.
At
some stage Thomas was wounded and
eventually returned home to 12 Belle
Grove Terrace, Newcastle. He died
of his wounds, two days after his
mother and eight months after his
father, at Lynthorpe, Wickham, Co
Durham on the 4th of December 1918
and is buried in St. John's Westgate
and Elswick Cemetery (plot G.C.310),
Newcastle-on-Tyne.
His
Medal Index Card (below) indicates
that he was awarded the Victory Medal,
British War Medal, 1914/15 Star and
Territorial Force Efficiency Medal.
