'Reserve' Battalion (2/4th)

Staff Officers and SNCO's

HQ Company

Data on 126 men who enlisted in the Reserve Battalion is held.

The 2/4th battalion became part of the newly formed 188th Bde, 63rd Divn during January 1915. The 63rd Divn was tasked with home defence, but was disbanded in Jul 1916. The 2/4th joined the 217th Bde, 72nd Division, but continued with home defence duties. The 72nd Divn was broken up Jan - Apr 1918.

Div - Division. An Infantry Division, at this time, was comprised of three Brigades. An Infantry Brigade was comprised of four Battalions.

DLI - Durham Light Infantry. British army regiment.

Inf - Infantry.

Lt - Rank of Lieutenant. Platoon Commander

Maj - Rank of Major

NF - Northumberland Fusiliers. British army regiment.

OC - Officer Commanding

RSM - Regimental Sergeant Major

Sgt - Non commissioned rank of Sergeant

TR - Trench.
